According to information released by Statistics Canada, Nanaimo is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada. Now classified as a census metropolitan area (CMA), Nanaimo’s growing population ranks it alongside major cities like Vancouver and Toronto.
Nanaimo’s population as of May 11, 2021 was 99,863 people, an increase of 10.3% from 2016.
According to Statistics Canada, the fastest growing census metropolitan areas in Canada are Kelowna, Chilliwack, Nanaimo, Kamloops, and London, Ontario. This means that four of the five fastest growing census metropolitan areas in Canada between 2016 – 2021 are located in B.C.
