Check It Twice: A Home Checklist for Sellers

Check It Twice: A Home Checklist for Sellers

Selling your house can be a challenging process, especially if you’re not sure where to start. Figuring out your real estate priorities can make the process much more manageable. Below is a checklist to help you and your family prepare for the sale of your house.

Define Your Goals

Before you think about selling your home, make sure you are ready. Review your finances to make sure you can afford the expense of selling, moving and buying a new home. Research the local housing market to see if now is an opportune time to sell.  Consider the advantages and disadvantages of selling your home, making sure it’s the right decision for you.

Figure Out Your Selling Expenses

It’s important not to forget about the extra costs that come with the selling process. List all the repairs or projects the house may need before sale and estimate the cost. Review closing costs, including real estate agent commissions, transfer taxes, prorated property taxes, professional home inspections and moving expenses.

Communicate With Your Realtor

Talk with your Realtor about your expectations and goals. Ask questions about the home-selling process if you’re uncertain. Make sure you feel comfortable with all aspects of the process, including sale price and marketing.

Prepare The House For Sale

Take steps to make sure the house looks its best, including cleaning, decluttering and finishing any repairs. Enhance your house’s curb appeal by tidying your front yard or touching up the outside paint.
