Departure Bay

DEPARTURE BAY

Departure Bay is a scenic, oceanside neighbourhood located above the beach. This neighbourhood is known for its close location to the BC Ferries terminal and Harbour Air seaplane airport. Other nearby attractions include the Nanaimo Golf and Country Club, Brooks Landing Mall and Departure Bay Beach.  Housing in this neighbourhood consists of mainly split-levels, character homes and condominiums. There are also a number of luxury homes on the rocky bluffs of Departure Bay as well as close to the Nanaimo Golf and Country Club. This neighbourhood is popular due to its lovely views of the Strait of Georgia and the Gulf Islands. The Coastal Mountains on the mainland also serve as an added backdrop to this stunning scene.

Kinsmen Park

Located right above Departure Bay Beach, this neighbourhood park includes a playground and grassy areas with picnic tables. This spot is especially popular during the summer for picnics, swimming and beachcombing.

Departure Bay Centennial Park

This neighbourhood park is a favourite for locals, featuring amenities such as tennis courts, a playfield, a multi-use court, two ball diamonds and a water park. The Departure Bay Activity Centre is also onsite and is used for many Parks, Recreation and Environment programs.

Wardropper Park

This small, community park features grassy areas and a fully fenced, off-leash dog area.

Sugarloaf Mountain Park

This park is a stunning natural viewpoint that looks over all of Departure Bay. Sugarloaf Mountain is the perfect place to watch sunrises and gaze over scenic Nanaimo. There are no official trails, other than the trail and stairway to the bluff top, in this mountain park.
