Central Nanaimo

Central Nanaimo is also known as the Hospital District, as the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is located right on Dufferin Crescent. This area is known for its close location to many medical facilities and other local amenities. This includes its close location to the Beban Park Complex and the Brooks Landing Mall. Most houses in this neighbourhood are the standard box form, results of the initial popularity of the area in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Character homes can be found in this area as well, most notably around Townsite Road. Central Nanaimo is a favourite neighbourhood for families due to its close proximity to many city amenities, including the Downtown area and the Country Club Mall.

Bowen Park

As one of the largest and oldest parks in Nanaimo, Bowen Park includes many different opportunities for nature-lovers. Walking trails along the Millstone River, duck ponds, scenic waterfalls and extensive rhododendron groves are all part of the park’s charm. Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, sports fields, curling club, outdoor lacrosse box, disc golf, tennis courts, horseshoe pitches, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds, a lawn bowling green, an outdoor amphitheatre and covered picnic shelters.

Beaufort Park

This park is a favourite among locals for its walking trails, community garden and off-leash dog area. Multi-purpose courts for basketball, pickle ball and ball hockey are also part of this community park.

Beban Park Complex

This recreation complex hosts one of the most popular children’s playgrounds in the city, conveniently structured for children of different ages. It also includes the Recreation Centre, complete with swimming pools and ice rinks. If outdoor sports interest you more, this park also includes tennis courts, soccer fields and a golf course complete with a driving range and putting green. The Beban Park Fair Grounds also hold many special events throughout the year, including the Vancouver Island Exhibition Fair.

Mansfield Park

This neighbourhood park includes a playground, play field area and water park feature, making it a very popular spot for families and children.
