What To Do When You First Move To Your New Home

What To Do When You First Move To Your New Home

Moving to a new home can be a challenging process. There is packing, organizing and many other tasks that can take up your time on the busy move-in day. Below are five tips of what to do before and on move-in day that can help you and your family settle into your new home.

Have The House Cleaned

Even if your new home is in good condition, it’s always wise to have it professionally cleaned before you fully move in. This includes thoroughly cleaning the bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms and even steaming the carpets.

Make Spare Keys

Moving day is always busy so it’s a good idea to have spare keys cut right away, for family members and anyone else who may need access to the house. There is also always the possibility of losing your keys in the confusion of moving, so it’s smart to have a spare set.

Check The Electricity & Water

When you first move in, check out the house and make sure everything is as it should be. Make sure the electricity and all appliances are working properly and that all the plumbing and water systems are in working order.

Connect Your Internet

Internet service providers can be booked in advance, so it’s smart to set-up your internet as soon as possible and minimize any inconvenience.

Change Your Address

Although this may take some time, changing your address for all identification records is important, especially for any incoming mail. This can include changing your address for your car insurance, bank accounts, employee records and magazine subscriptions. Contact your insurance provider and make sure your current home insurance policy is also up to date.
